2-Day Rainbow Mountain and Circle Lake

On the first day of your adventure we will pick you up at your hotel at 6am and drive nearly 2 hours before stopping at a local restaurant to grab some breakfast, Peruvian style. After a quick stop we continue on for another hour passing colorful canyons, deep valleys and beautiful rivers before arriving at our starting point for the trek. We will pack our belongings go over the itinerary eat lunch and we’ll begin our high altitude exploration around noon passing local herders, lush pampas and hundreds of alpacas- only a teaser for what is to come on your journey. Our destination for the night is Circle Lake, where we will enjoy a beautiful evening surrounded by jaw dropping landscape in the still on the Andes. As the sun sets we set up the dining tent with chairs for your group to relax and enjoy conversation while dinner is being prepared. This night you will see an unforgettable night sky full of constellations, and shooting stars, while you keep yourself warm with coca tea.

Day 1: Cusco – Qesuno – CIRCLE LAKE

Day 2: Circle Laguna – Rainbow Mountain – CUSCO

Today is what you’ve been waiting for. Your chance to see the beautiful Rainbow Mountain; and the best part, you’re almost there. We’ll wake you up at 5am with coca tea delivered to your tent, and serve you a hearty breakfast to fuel you up for your final climb to Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain). Upon arrival you can take all the time you want soaking in the amazing 360 degree vistas of the surrounding lands and explore the mountain itself. Take some time to yourself and really enjoy the beauty of nature around you- it truly is a magical place. The hike down will only take about three hours and here we will celebrate a successful journey, and enjoy lunch before departing back to Cusco (3 hours). Arrival time back in Cusco will depend on how long you want to spend on Rainbow Mountain, but we typically get back around 6pm and drop you off at your hotel.

What do I need to bring?
• Backpack with rain shelter.
• Sleeping bag.
• Clothing for warm and cold climate like a waterproof jacket.
• Rain pants and lightweight pants.
• Trekking shoes.
• Woollen or synthetic socks and a sweater.
• Long- and short-sleeved polo’s/T-Shirts.
• Rain poncho and a hat.
• Sunscreen, insect repellent, disinfecting alcohol and gel, water bottle and sterilizing tablets, toiletries and toilet paper.
• Camera (wrapped in plastic bag).
• Flash light and batteries.
• Some snacks like chocolate bars and dry fruit.
• Original passport, original ISIC student card and extra money in soles.
• Since the weather can be very cold and moistly, your clothes – once gotten wet – won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change.

• Pre-briefing time at 19hrs in your hotel 1 or 2 days before your date departure (It has to be confirmed at the booking time).

• Sleeping bag (if you do not have a sleeping bag, there is the possibility of lending one)

*Awareness-raising Most of the people living in the region of Ausangate are very poor and live from breeding and cultivation. A small group of farmers and our agency want to help those people. A small voluntary donation can help them to buy for example clothes or school equipment. The families will be very grateful.

Notes:
(1) We will climb up 5020m/16469ft. Combined with extreme weather this trek can be hard work. We want you to remember this trek with a smile on your face, therefore, please ensure that you are well acclimatized, in good shape and healthy.
(2) Since the weather can be very cold and moisty, your clothes – once gotten wet – won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change
