Tour Itinerary

First Day:

We will depart at 7:30 am from Arequipa, driving 160 km to the town of Chivay, capital of the Province of Caylloma. At the beginning of our excursion we will enjoy the majestic views of the Misti, Chachani and PichuPichu volcanoes before approaching the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”, where our vehicle will make a short stop to observe the wild vicuñas (one of the 4 types of South American camelids) in its natural habitat. At this point we will be about 3,400 meters above sea level.
On our journey we will observe the natural scenery formed by different lakes (With stops for pictures) and have a breathtaking over view from La Ventana (the Window). After this visit we continue to the village of Callalli (Approx. arrival 13:00 pm), where we enjoy our picnic lunch (included). Our guide will offer an optional hike to the Caves of Mollepunko (recommended), In these caves we will appreciates artistic remains (Carvings and paintings) developed by the first inhabitants of the area, dedicated to hunting and gathering. The hike take around 1.50 hrs.
After this experience we keep to the town of Sibayo, where we can visits some archaeological areas and then enter to the village of Tuti, famous for its attractive colonial church.
As we get close to the town of Chivay (3,651 meters) we will start to wonder at the spectacular multicolor view of the terraces of the Colca valley. We will arrive in Chivay around 03:30 pm.
We will have a short visit of Chivay’s Plaza and drive to our lodge or hotel.
After a rest we’ll come back to our transportation and drive to a natural hot springs where we will enjoy nice bath (Entrance fee and towels for the baths are not included).
Finishing this exciting day we will bring you to your hotel or lodge.
Accommodation

Second day:

After breakfast at your hotel a Coporaque villager will take you to his home and will plan together with you the work to be done this day. We cannot exactly define what this day will look like as it depends on the season and weekday.
However, the normal activities – amongst others- include support in the fields, herding animals, the preparation of land for sowing, and/or harvesting.
In the afternoon your host will accompany you on your way back to your hotel. Lunch is not included in your program; however we will be able to organize it for you. The afternoon is free for personal activities such as hiking, horses ride or biking, they are not include in program but on request they can be also organized.
Please note: Local people do not speak English, so be prepared to use at least some Spanish words as well as speaking with your hands.

Third Day:

We will have our breakfast very early in the morning and leave to the famous “Cruz del Condor” point. Arrive at “Cruz del Condor” and have enough time enjoy the deep view of the Canyon and if weather permits; majestic pictures of the flight of the condors.
After a coordinated time, our guide will take you for a short walk near the Canyon (1 hour aprox.) On the way back to Chivay we’re going to visit the traditional village of Pinchollo and the “Antahuilque viewpoint”, where wonderful 1,500 year old terraces, constructed by the Collaguas, a culture well before the Incas’ time, can be observed.
We also will make a stop at the look-out point of “Choquetico” with its hanging tombs “Tumbas colgantes“, and take a look to the litomaqueta, a model of the canyon terraces carved in a rock. We then continue to Maca, an Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November of 1991 and the village of Yanque with the most beautiful church in the valley.
After our lunch at a local restaurant in Chivay we drive back to Arequipa city (lunch is not included). We will arrive in Arequipa around 04:00pm.
