Our excursion to the Chimpa fortress is a combination of natural and man-made beauty. We are going drive crossing  traditional villages such as Madrigal and Lari,  admire the beautiful old terraces  and close  this experience walking through the Fortress of Chimpa, enjoying stunning panoramic views of both sides of the Colca valley.

The Fortress is located in Madrigal area (right side of the Colca canyon) and it was a strategically military facility made with stones by the Collagua culture (Pre-Inca).

This whole activity takes approximately 6 hours and the path to the top of the hill was designed with options of resting in some spots in case of need. It requieres a moderate physical condition.

From the top of the fortress you will be able to enjoy an incredible view of the canyon with its terraces, gorges, and along the walk enjoy  beautiful and peculiar Andean flora. We will have time to explore walking through the areas of the fortress and of course, take as many photos as possible.

On our way back we visit the town of Madrigal and the town of Lari with its beautiful church, one of the most spectacular temples in the Colca Valley.

The Chimpa Fortress is undoubtedly a fascinating and different destination in the wonderful Colca Valley!

    We had a fun and educational private Colca Valley tour and road trips with Ramiro (guide) and Herbert (driver) from Giardino Tours.     We went on a two-day tour with Luis and Julio and it was amazing! Luis speaks very good English and knows a lot about the history and culture of is own country. At every question, he could easily give you a good answer and explainating. Julio was a very good driver. We felt very safe and he stopt at the best spots for pictures. This was one of the best trips during our stay in Peru. We highly recommend this tour guide!
