What you need to know to travel to Peru.
What are the Entry requirements to Peru 2024?
Passport:
- A passport with six months validity is required to enter Peru. Migraciones (Immigration) authorities may also require evidence of return/onward travel.
Be sure your date and place of entry is officially documented by Migraciones, whether you arrive at a port, airport, or land border. - Your length of approved stay will be determined by border officials at the time of entry, and can range from 30 to 183 days.
- Extensions for tourists are usually not approved, and overstays result in fines.
- Your passport is often required when checking into hotels, for train, bus and air services and entrances to Tourist places (Example. Machu Picchu areas). Also when changing money your passport can be requiered, so carry it with you on these occasions.
- It is also an excellent idea to memorise your passport number for the form filling. It is a good idea to carry photocopies of the personal details pages of your passport. Should you lose your passport, this may assist with the issue of replacement documents in your embassy.
What is the best time to visit Peru?
The best time to visit Peru is during the winter (May – September) is the driest season and therefore the best time of year to travel, especially if you’re planning to visit Cusco or trek to Machu Picchu. The summer (December – March) is warmer of course, but is also the raining season in the Anden, with frequent heavy showers.
How many days in Peru is enough?
We recommend spending ten days to two weeks in Peru, as this allows visitors to visit plenty of the country’s major highlights along with some off-the-beaten-path destinations. Of course a costumized package according to your needs, can be organized.
How far in advance should I book the Inca Trail?
It is strongly recommended to book your Inca Trail Tour at least 6 months in advance as permits can quickly sell out. The official Inca trail is closed every year for the month of February to give the trails some time to recover and carry out maintenance.

RESPONSIBLE PERU TRAVEL TIPS:
- When are you planning your trip, choose those providers that offer guarantees of quality and respect for human rights and the environment.
- Also make sure that the companies that you hire during your trip are formal and established; because it means that they pay taxes and this support the growth and development of the country.
- Plan your route to minimize carbon emissions – travel by train or public bus where it is possible, minimize internal flights.
- Pack the right PPE gear. (Personal protective equipment). Bring Hand sanitizer and bring masks for you and your family.
BEFORE YOUR TRIP STARS:
- Read about our culture and learn a few words in spanish – traveling with respect earns you respect.
- Remove all excess packaging – waste disposal is difficult in remote places like Valleys, rivers or traditional towns.
Take to your trip rechargeable batteries for camera or other electronic devices; if not, please return the old batteries to your country. In Peru battery recycling is difficult and in many places almost impossible; please do not forget that one battery can contaminate 40 liters of water. - If you dont know how to manage a old battery during your trip, please talk to us to inform you where and how is the best way to dispose them.
- Take a Reusable Botle of Water and a cloth bag with you.
